256 colors, a bit high for pixel art, what program did you use to make this? Also, why the random dithering at the neck?
i used sai and i was going to add more dither but i forgot too lol and i didn't know there was a certain amount of color for pixels :c
Dithering is typically employed when you make something with a low color count to give the illusion of smoothness, it isn't necessary here. You can't just decide to use dithering on a 256 color image, it just looks ugly & stands out. There isn't really a limit when it comes to colors, but Pixel Art is an art style in tribute to the good old days of digital art. It also involves choosing colors by hand to make a sprite. I'm pretty sure you didn't pick all those 256 colors by hand. In which case this is not pixel art. If you can reduce the color count to something less than about 30, & 3-4 shades per color, then you're good to go. I recommend using a simpler program, like PaintXP.
The amount of colors isn't what makes it pixel art. It's based on if it's edited on a pixel level. There's different styles of pixel art. The one you're saying is real pixel art would be the hard pixeling style. The other style is tool shading. Daomu used a mixture of both but would be under tool shading since it's not fully hard pixel.
Pretty sure the whole "this isn't pixel art cause it's not done the old fashion way" is kind of biased, but thanks.
Yep, pretty much, putting my hands in the air. Look at the post above you for confirmation. I still stand by the dithering bit though.
