    CHINESE CHESS

    XIANGQI

    Description:
Unlike most other forms of chess, the Chinese game is played on the points of intersecting lines, rather than on the squares of the board.

Introduce Rule: The object of this game is to force capture of the enemy General. This may be by checkmate (General is under attack and has no means of escape) or by stalemate (General is not under immediate threat, but there is no legal, safe move).

Expect for the Cannon (See blow), a piece captures by using its normal move, and landing on a point occupied by an enemy piece. The captured piece is removed from the board and the capturing piece takes its place. The Cannon also takes the place of its capture piece, but must use one intervening piece, as shown in the discussion of its unique move.

When the General is being threatened with capture, the player is said to be in "check," and the player must move in such a way that the General is no longer threatened. If he cannot, he has lost the game.

It is not allowed to give perpetual check, or a perpetual attack. If the game is repeating its position, the player forcing the repetition must do something else.

There is a speical rule about the Generals. The two may never face each other on the same line across the board, with no intervening pieces between them. It is said that they may not "see" each other. This becomes important, especially in the end game, as the position of one General limits the movements of the other, and can "protect" a piece invading the enemy fortress.

The River, which creates a space between the two sides of the board, is generally ignored - as if it were filled in with lines, completing a board of 9 x 10 points. It only effects the moves of the Elephants, who cannot cross it, and the Soldiers, who gain more power of move after crossing it.

Also in tournament play, to being the game, Red moves FIRST.

    Rule:

The General moves one space at a time left, right, forward or backward. General is confined to the nine point fortress, on his side of the board.

The Adjutant General is also confined to the fortress. Adjutant General moves one point diagonally.

The Elephant moves exactly two points in any diagonal direction. This piece can be blocked by another piece on the intervening square (A and B in diagram) and is not allowed to cross the river, which runs between the two sides of the board.

The Horse moves first one point along the horizontal/vertical lines, and then one point diagonally. Similar to the knight in western chess, but this horse can be blocked by an intervening piece. The horse in the diagram can not move to the points marked by the red X’s; it is blocked by the Black pawn.

The Car moves exactly like the rook in western chess: as many spaces as it wishes horizontally or vertically, until it meets another piece or the edge of the board.

The Cannon is a peculiar piece. It moves exactly like the Car (or rook) when not capturing. But to capture, it must have a piece, friend or foe, in line to jump over. In this diagram, the Cannon can capture the enemy pawn, as shown. It can not, however, move beyond that pawn, or to the unoccupied points A or B.

The Soldier moves one point forward. After it crosses the river, it may also move to the right and left, but never backward. Unlike the pawn in western chess, this piece captures just as it moves normally (see diagram). It does not promote upon reaching the far end of the board.

    Pung-Hu

Description: Pung-Hu is an island off the South of Taiwan.

    Introduce Rules:
    1. Turn pieces upside down and mix up randomly
    2. Place on squares on the board without looking at any pieces and in a random way

    3. The Chinese often use rock/paper/scissors to decide who goes first.

    4. Whoever goes first turns a piece over. THAT IS THEIR COLOR. The other player is the other color.

    5. The second player turns over a piece. Etc... until one player can "eat" another player's piece. The EATING piece has to land ON the EATEN piece. Game continues until one player cannot move= other player wins. Or one players eats all the other player's pieces. Or until one player surrenders.

    6. IF ONE PLAYER MOVES THREE TIMES IN AN IDENTICAL WAY- THAT PLAYERS THAT'S FIRST TO DO THAT- HAS TO THEN MOVE DIFFERENTLY THE 4th TIME. THEY MUST do so.

    7. It is usually wiser to begin from the center. It is also usually wiser to " use it or lose it" with powerful pieces.

    8. In the event that the Chinese invade, some of them love to play this game. They will not likely know these rules. There are dozens of rule sets. However, they would most likely be willing to play by these rules if you insist you cannot play any other rules Most Chinese love to gamble. It is conceivable that one could end up playing this game for lives. Pray, trust God and play. They respect courage, pluck.

    9. Do not trust them as they will not trust you in terms of leaving the board alone with them. You must watch at all times but not obsessively and not in a paranoid way. In many situations, many feel it almost an obligation to cheat if it will gain them an advantage. Mostly are pretty honorable unless you make it easy for them to cheat. Many are honorable regardless.

    10. It is a fun game as each game is different with the random beginning. You can also play matching like with children's cards with the pieces. But the two generals match and the 5th black and red soldier's match.

    11. If you play two sets and two boards, you can combine them for a longer, more interesting game.

    12. I hope you enjoy it as much as the other player do.

The follow from above(top to bottom)
    General:
Moves normally. Eats all but soldiers. Can be eaten by car, horse, cannon, or soldier.
Adjutant General: Moves normally. Eat all but General.
Elephant: Moves normally. Eats all but General and Adj. General.
Car: Moves normally. Eats all but must have least one space between itself and victim.
Horse: Moves normally. Eats all diagonally.
Cannon: Moves normally. Eats all. Eats by jumping over only one piece. Distance does not matter.
Soldier: Moves normally. Eats only General or another soldier.

Don't! Delete this thread right now because knowing Nimonix they are more likely to make this garbo minigame before they even attempt to develop the game
