I don't think lag abusers should be allowed to win tournaments. Tournaments are only fair when they are won with minimal assistance from lag. To abuse lag means to frequently harass the opponent while lagging, to overwhelm and confuse the opponent with lag. By "frequent" I mean 10+ lag harassment interactions within 10 minutes. Here's an example of what I would consider lag abuse, in which lag is used aggressively to cheese out some victories from an unsuspecting tournament. It's 10+ lag harassments within a 10 minute best of 5 set: 1. One, you see a long distance teleport to hit behind my partner, giving the lagger safe damage and knockdown: https://imgur.com/a/OZHaSeK 2. Two is this insta-pop counter behind me, which avoids my kick while getting free damage and knockdown: https://imgur.com/a/8zIdX8H 3. Three shows a slide kick followed by a backwards teleport, which can lure in unsuspecting players and then kick them from behind for free: https://imgur.com/a/Fn4Pdxb 4. Four, you can see my partner get hawked down by lightning fast chasing due to lag, which leads to free damage and knockdown: https://imgur.com/a/Cxgjbme 5. Five shows the player ignore my kick damage and stun, followed by his teleport slide-kick to hit my partner's back behind his guard for free damage: https://imgur.com/a/UZhp3oP 6. Six shows the opponent ignoring my recovery kick, which avoids damage and knockdown: https://imgur.com/a/doUCZHL 7. Seven shows super unpredictable movement which is difficult to track and oppressive, causing confusion and hesitation: https://imgur.com/a/eY6JoGG 8. Eight shows the opponent closing the gap with a quick teleport into a grab attempt, which benefits from the element of surprise: https://imgur.com/a/dos7tAe 9. Nine shows the opponent ignoring my partner's kicks, avoiding punishment and knockdown: https://imgur.com/a/slr5o4u 10. Ten shows disruptive short ranged teleporting, which keeps us disorganized and guessing: https://imgur.com/a/tKpeoZs Ten lag harassment interactions within ten minutes, so much so that the game is nearly unplayable, which is why I call it lag abuse. Tournament prizes shouldn't be given to those who abuse lag, because tournament prizes are supposed to reflect your skill, determination, and preparation. If lag abusers win a tournament, it's largely because they were assisted by lag abuse, which is unfair. We can't practice against lag abuse in training mode. I don't think you should have to practice against lag abuse anyway, because lag abuse is external assistance, which is grounds for disqualification to begin with. I understand that some people have no choice but to lag, because they play from overseas, or just have bad internet. Even so, I think lag abuse means to harass the opponent while lagging. So to be fair, a lagger would either have to forfeit, or stop attacking during a lag spike, and wait until everyone is settled and in neutral, before resuming the fight.
