Explain how Alaska is part of the United States...

Okay I keep having to tell people that Alaska is not part of the united states because its not connected to America like the other states. (Thus making it not independent like the others) If anything its part of Canada and all of the states in Canada because its connected TO Canada.. See what i'm saying here? Explain how Alaska is part of the United States, because I have a map here myself and even then it puts Alaska part of the United States (which could've been a mistake, because it was made in China). There is so many uninformed people based on where ceryain States belong in a country...

On Jan. 3, 1959, President Dwight Eisenhower signed a proclamation admitting Alaska to the Union as the 49th state. States were either found or acquired. Some places are US Territories like PR for example.

 

Whats a PR? Also why is he taking states that aren't even parted with the States? This doesn't make sense at all...

It's a part of the U.S. cuz of Seward's Folly. He purchased Alaska, a vast tundra of ice that seemed unimportant to inner America, but few knew that Alaska had several resources (oil, gold, coal, etc) that the U.S. needs.
tl:dr ; It's not connected to America, but it's legally linked to us.
